The Democratic Republic of the Congo has endured decades of conflict and instability, with civilians continuing to bear the cost. Fighting in eastern Congo, involving M23 and numerous other armed groups, has displaced millions and exposed communities to killings, sexual violence, hunger and the destruction of homes and livelihoods. Despite peace efforts, violence and displacement continue in 2026.

More than 5 million people remain displaced, while over 1.2 million Congolese refugees are living across other African countries.

FREE CONGO is a statement of solidarity with the Congolese people — for peace, safety, dignity and a future in which Congolese communities can thrive.
